Lecturer:
Dr. Iris Shagrir, The Open University of Jerusalem
Prof. Shagrir described the changes in the soundscape of medieval Jerusalem as a result of its conquest by the Crusaders in 1099, in particular through the new sounds of the church bells. We discussed the meanings attributed by medieval townspeople to different sounds, and the historical importance of the study of the development of the medieval soundscapes.
