Lecturer:

Prof. Amy Remensnyder, Brown University

Prof. Amy Remensnyder presented us with questions about the shaping force of the sea and natural maritime space, particularly islands, on religious entanglement among Muslims and Christians sailors in the high medieval and early modern Mediterranean. Through her current work on the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa, she discussed methodological issues related to the writing of the new maritime history, also known as thalassography, and of microhistory.
