Seminar | Consumption of Justice in the Middle Ages

Lecturer:

Dr. Oded Zinger, HUJI

Dr. Zinger examined the Hebrew responsa, as they are represented in the Cairo Geniza, as a medieval social and legal institution. We debated the possible uses of the responsa, and wondered about the motives and intentions of the users. Finally, Dr. Zinger presented the ways in which changes in the responsa culture represent social transformations in medieval Jewish society.
