Lecture I Traveling Jewish Men, Covenantal Bromances, and the Boundaries of Normative Jewish Masculinity in Two Late Medieval Hebrew Sources

Lecturer:

Dr. Eyal Levinson

On 2 July, Dr. Eyal Levinson presented a lecture at the International Medieval Congress in  the University of Leeds, titled "'Eternal love I conceived for you': Traveling Jewish Men, Covenantal Bromances, and the Boundaries of Normative Jewish Masculinity in Two Late Medieval Hebrew Sources". The lecture discussed covenantal bromances among Jewish men in the Middle Ages. Entering into a covenant prior to long distant journeys was a known phenomenon among medieval Jewish men. These homosocial pacts, or bromances, were (as far as the sources attest) non-sexual friendships based on mutual trust and some sort of emotional connection, and they were sometimes sealed with oaths.
